antarctic Adventure - Day 7 Hydrurga Rocks
Antarctic Journal Day 7
24th January 2020
We had a spectacular day landing on Spert Island in the morning where I spent some time watching penguins porpoising. They are so funny and much more agile in the sea than on land. They are really difficult to catch on camera, my best effort was on extra 2.
Have I mentioned the smell of penguins yet? They smell like a bin that you threw some fish away in 2 weeks ago and then forgot. By now we were becoming very familiar with the smell which greeted us as we approached land. Also our clothes were smelling of it. (Oh sorry, just realised I mentioned it in the future on day 9)
In the afternoon we had a spectacular zodiac ride in a heavy swell along an amazing bit of coastline called Hydrurga Rocks with spectacular caves and cliffs. My pictures dont really do it justice but extra 3 will give you an idea.
In the evening we had a treat as a yacht with red sails came past us giving fantastic photo opportunities against the background
