Intimations of Immortality

A splendid winged soul representing the soul of the deceased leaving the body at the time of death. It will ascend to await the body by which it will be joined on the Day of Judgement. Beneath it are palm fronds which symbolise triumph over death. The initials are those of Alexander Rainie, farmer of Lochielair who died on the last day of 1742.
