Full Circle
So,
when I was 17 I left home and went to stay with two friends in a flat.
They'd already monopolised the best rooms so I was left with the cupboard.
However,
It was my first flat - and I thought it was great.
We had to vote whether to have the telephone connected (we didn't.) Decide whether to wash our clothes at the laundrette or soak them in the bath (always the bath) and make sure the jam-jar next to the coin-fed electricity meter had at least one 50p in it so we could watch the television.
We had the worst portable telly ever - on the basis that if the TV licensing people turned up it would be cheaper to throw the telly out of the window than either pay the fine or buy a license.
A few years have passed since those frugal, early years and basic services like gas and electricity have pretty much been regarded as a given in the David's Pics household...
...until now.
Now we have "The Owl."
"The Owl"has a bit that clips around the red wire going into your electricity meter. This transmits the amount of electricity being used to the base unit pictured above.
Don't get one of these.
Have you ANY idea how much it costs to use a hairdryer??
I'm off to get my smalls out of the bath - goodnight...
