This beautiful, but undesirable, fly was introduced to New Zealand from Europe in the late 19th century.

We had 13mm of rain overnight, the first for eight weeks. With it came a temperature drop of 10 or 12ºC. I had to put on three more layers of clothing.

Many of my ailing trees and bushes are looking perky today, but some are not.
