I love a Sunburnt Country
In 1904, a nineteen year old girl, Dorothea Mackellar, was travelling Europe and England with her father when she wrote this poem.
The poem was later published, launching her career as a poet. The second verse has become one of the most famous in Australian literature.
This is a photo of her travel diary. Clearly written with nib and ink-well, I love the way the ink fades mid word before the nib is re-dipped!
