Dongle

To make things connect with other things. 
This one connects my work computer to something. 
I haven't worked out what. What I do know is that I have to remove it to have sound without the earphones. 
So I guess it  connects the earphones to the computer.
Is that all it does? 
Seems like a lot of technology to only get rid of a cable.
Handy though.
