ABBA Tribute
(9/2/20)
We decided to stay put in the morning and have a quiet day!
The big thing today was attending the Bjorn Again concert tonight at Dubai Opera. I became aware of this show in January and knew immediately that I wanted to go. The fact that the cheapest ticket was less than £25 just reiterated it, and had I gone ahead and booked tickets right away, we wouldn't have been in the second-last row right at the top of Royal Circle!
Anyway, not-so-great seats aside, Bjorn Again are the official ABBA tribute band and I think they do a pretty good job. I was a HUGE ABBA fan growing up and have pretty much remained so apart from a few years in the mid-1990s! Their music is timeless and still attracts a wide audience - there were several kids singing along and good for them - Bjorn wrote some excellent lyrics and Benny, beautiful melodies.
The choice of songs seemed to be based on ABBA Live, an album I only became aware of around eleven years ago. The girls took a break and then "Bjorn" and "Benny" went off the rails and before we knew it, they did a rendition of Jump by Van Halen. The audience thoroughly enjoyed it but it seemed so out of place!
The event itself was sold-out over two weeks ago. It was so cool to see so many happy people enjoying the music and reliving lots of memories no doubt.
We left pretty promptly and I dreaded to think how long we might find ourselves in a traffic jam, but no, it all flowed smoothly. One of the things I always do before going to watch a band is to play their music as we're getting ready. We had the ABBA Gold CD in the car and as G had enjoyed the music so much, she wanted to go for a drive just so we could continue to listen to ABBA. I drove us to the Last Exit D89 for a spice tea. :D
