BBC #17

In this instance "BBC" stands for "Blackheath Blippers Challenge". This week I have chosen a valued local icon.

The Gardners Inn at Blackheath, is one of the oldest hotels in Australia. Ex-soldier, Andrew Gardner built the original building in 1831, and then named it the Scotch Thistle Inn. In 1938, it was fundamentally rebuilt in the (then) popular Californian style and renamed after its original owner. It has had several remodellings and renovations since then but we are reliably informed that much of the original historic structure still remains - buried deep within. Evidently the stonework (just visible to the extreme left of shot) and the steps (just out of shot) remain from the original 1933 architecture.

Here we view it from some old fashioned shops and their VERY old fashioned awnings just across the road.
