Field Trip!
Today my art history course stepped off campus to get amongst New Zealand Architecture. Cathedral Square was our focal point, examining nineteenth century structures, many of which have unfortunately been replaced by harsh office buildings that do not half as well remind Cantabrians of their historic existence.
This corridor at the Canterbury Provincial Council Buildings is reminiscent of the medieval monastic cloister or the passages of Hogwarts. Both could be plausible really. It's architect, Benjamin Mountfort, was heavily interested in Gothic Revival buildings and much of Christchurch's character owes a lot to his work.
Seeing this scene made me want to time travel...
Still haven't decided what I will write my essay on...
