Pointing To Light
I kept the late sun just out of view as it cast wonderful light across the icy surface of the lake. I wanted to feature the glassy shape near the shore and initially used the line in the snow to lead into it. However, that left the rocks on the edge of the frame, so I eventually settled on this image using the rocks as a leading line instead. I think the weight of the rocks better anchor the foreground anyway.
Also my first compositions did not include much sky, but the cloud patterns were just as interesting to me so I reframed my view to show more of them. I think this way clearly indicates the light source adding to the story.
