Shipwrecked!

Four of us paddlers headed from Cass Bay in Lyttelton Harbour, out round Quail Island, and back to the western shore, visiting the ships' graveyard on the way. In the image, one of our paddlers is inside the former tea clipper and migrant ship Darra (1865), one of a group of ships that were scuttled just off Quail Island. The Darra, and 13 others, were deposited there to avoid being navigational hazards in the shallow waters of the inner harbour, abandoned there between 1902 and 1953. (Thanks Wikipedia).

Besides having to deal with a stiff Nor-easter and incoming tide (image in Extras), we were privy to a beautiful white fronted tern being ferociously harassed by what we think was a NZ skua, who wanted the fish we'd just seen the tern snatch from the water. The tern was shrieking and trying to get away from the far bigger marauding black terror.

Thanks Rockarea for hosting Wideangle Wednesday. Today's theme is 'water'.

PS - Blip has just told me it's my Blip Birthday!
Seven years of unbroken blipping, with several back-blips along the way, when I've been out there adventuring.
Thanks so much Blip Team - we wouldn't be here without you!
And thank you too all you wonderful blippers who have left comments and stars & faves, encouraging me along the way. I would never have thought I'd get to this birthday!
