River Aire
at Ireland Bridge, Bingley.
Certainly plenty of water here so appropriate for the Wide Wednesday challenge this week - water.
We cross this bridge every time we go to Bingley from our village above the valley. When we crossed on Monday the weir wasn’t visible at all as the water was higher. Still pretty high, we couldn’t see the uprooted tree stuck on top of the weir just before the bridge, so not sure whether it was there or not on Monday.
The houses backing onto the river are part of the oldest street in the town. Bingley is an ancient market town with it’s market charter being granted over 800 years ago. The lovely back gardens are often inundated as is the pub out of sight at the near end of the bridge. As we passed it later we could see the sand bags across the steep entrance but it would seem that all have been lucky this time. Hope it stays that way with the forecast for Storm Denis coming this weekend!
I’m a little confused today as it is normally Pilates on Wednesday but it’s moved to Tuesday, so after a bit of shopping and no rush to get home we had a coffee in the town before walking down the riverside.
Another day of sunshine and wintry showers.
I will realise it is Wednesday when we go to the pub at 5.00 pm, our usual early evening midweek meet up with friends with the odd gin or two!
