Jar of Beauty
Today, my Valentine got up, lit the fire, made a pot of tea, and then went out to pick me some wild flowers, pretty good, eh?
To keep all the lovey stuff in perspective, three facts:
- 14th February commemorates the day St Valentine was beheaded
- he is the patron saint of beekeepers and of epilepsy, as well as of courtly love
- he was a celibate priest
Walked into town through a glorious morning to pick up a book from our post office box, and then spent the afternoon reading devouring it, so good I hardly stirred till I'd finished it (and now I'm stiff and aching). Some books are enlightening, mind-broadening; some are entertaining; and some are life for your soul, this was one. Assimilate or Go Home, by D L Mayfield, "Notes From a Failed Missionary on Rediscovering Faith". Just one quote (for now, anyway):
Eventually I learned to listen, which is without a doubt the most important missionary skill. p37
Gratefuls:
- women who write their story, unflinchingly and wisely, so that readers can make their own stories better
- a husband to share life with
- Marcos, who has set up a company to help illegal immigrants here in Mourão, who knew!
