Another Grasshopper Portrait
I love it when a grasshopper pauses to have its portrait taken. Usually they flick away at even a distant approach. This one has a lot more textured pattern than last year’s model, which makes it difficult to see its features. These NZ lowland grasshoppers are able to adapt their markings to suit their surroundings. This one seems unusually dark for the drought conditions. Perhaps it’s due to the excess leaf litter from the distressed trees. It is small- only 1cm long. More detail full screen.
