The Black Gate.

The Black Gate was built onto the castle or keep at Newcastle between 1247 and 1250. The Society of Antiquaries restored the building in the late nineteenth century. Even they could not prevent the railway from going through the middle of the castle, separating the Keep from the Black Gate.
