The old and the new

When I bought my timeshare over 12 years ago, it was in a relatively new development beside a magnificent old hotel, The Savoy, later to be known as The Classic Savoy.

We could go to chamber concerts in the ballroom and, particularly useful to us, was the fact that we could use a succession of lifts and cut through, saving us the steep climb to the top road.

Time, politics and profit meant that the wonderful old hotel was demolished and plans for the new development were held up by a variety of problems, including death and power struggles. Result - an unsightly hole in the ground, and we had to negotiate the hill before going anywhere.

New ideas, new owners and a new development happened a few years ago. Highly controversial (too high and lots of other moans) the building went ahead and it opened last August.

This morning was my first chance to avoid the steep hill, walk through the glamour, and emerge on the top road.

The building is beautiful, so huge and impressive, especially the pools.

So - The Savoy Palace is today’s blip.

What do you think ?

I miss The Savoy, but it is rather magnificent.

Edit. I went up to explore the rooftop bar.
Extra photo.
Spectacular view but I'm not sure they want us from the Royal Savoy. It's very empty.
