Very old puzzle

When I was an adolescent I somehow came into possession of a puzzle like the one in this photo. I recall my father saying that one of my great uncles made it, probably patterning it off a commercially available one.

About thirty or so years ago I collected various bits and pieces of metal and made this copy. It had been fifteen or twenty years since I had last seen the puzzle I used to have so I was fortunate my memory was good enough to make a copy that works well.

The object of the puzzle is to remove the assembly containing the rings from the metal loop attached to the handle and then to reassemble the puzzle. I spent hours playing with the original puzzle when I was a kid.
