An Avid Lensman

Fordingbridge

The town of Fordingbridge, in Hampshire was my childhood town, but only for haircuts, the doctor and occasional shopping. I've explored more of it, as an adult a lot of years since.

Named after the 'forde' that crossed the River Avon, in the Domesday Book, it then became the added 'bridge' in medieval times when the 7 arched stone bridge was built and which is still in use today. A by-pass from the 1970's directed all but local traffic from the bridge and the town. History details , for further info.

Inspired by ace Blipper btc's excellent series on London bridges at night, I promised myself to get a half decent shot of this one and with rain possible later today, leading to yet more snow, it was early this morning or not at all, quite a while before sun-up (not that it actually did.) Tripod wedged into the muddy slush of the "rec". and freezing one's toes off as I opened the shutter for 30secs, a number of times.

Had effective one or two that were zoomed in more, but after making a point of shooting in the snow, you're going to flippin' well have one with snow in!!! Quick edit, with localised shadow extraction on the unlit part of the bridge and other minor exposure fiddles, though the colour is pretty well as was.
