Fly capital of the world...
Edit: I have changed the image from the panorama to this mono tree one, as I have now had time to go through all yesterdays images and I preferred this one! And it is better bigger...
This is posted late as I took images for 8 different panoramas and had to process them all! So much for the time thing...
We made it to Lake Mountain, with our bikes, and it would have been a really lovely day, except for the flies... not just a few, but all the flies in the world were there I think, just for us (as we were the only people there, except for a couple of people painting the buildings). I have NEVER seen so many flies in one place. And they weren't just your average pesky little flies, there were wopping great March (Horse) flies and bush flies. Luckily I had some insect repellent in my bike bag (we used it all up!), but we still spent the whole time cycling one handed whilst doing the Aussie salute!
Apart from the flies, it was beautiful. This is the first time I have gone out of snow season and there were lots of flowers and insects (other than just the flies) and the regrowth is more obvious with no snow. The whole area was devastated by the Black Saturday fires (almost four years ago) and the snow gums regrow from the base of the tree, leaving the old trees to become white ghostly shadows of their former selves, after the burnt bark has peeled away.
HERE is Lake Mountain in the snow and please press L to see this one larger.
Thank you so much for all the nice comments on yesterdays blip - I think tomorrow will be my first blip free day (unless something comes along that just has to be blipped!)
