Ramsholt 75th Anniversary.
Down to earth today with attending the 75th anniversary of a WWII Aircraft crash in the River Deben at Ramsholt. In 1945 A B17 Flying Fortress took off from a local airfield at Debach heading towards Germany. An engine fire soon after take off could not be extinguished and the Captain had to take the decision to crash land. Avoiding nearby villages he decided to land in the river, close to the Ramsholt Arms. Sadly 8 of the 10m crew were lost. The survivors were taken to the Ramsholt Arms Inn and given emergency first aid. There is now a plaque to the memory of the plane and its crew members. The gentlemen in the photograph carrying the wreath is the local Harbour Master and as a 10 year old boy helped to recover the aircraft. It is the only time he has ever been on an aircraft, much preferring the sea! This year some relatives of that crew attended the annual remembrance service to those men who didn't survive their last flight.
