More changes of plan

Nothing seems to be predictable in this world.  I was booked to do the beautiful levada walk, the Serra D’Agua Valley. I last did this with PicturePoems a few years ago but today there was a major fire at Boa Morte so our excellent guide, Miguel, decided to reverse the direction of our walk.

A brilliant idea. The other groups had experienced the thick smoke and saw the flames. We did curtail the walk but only by a short distance.

We started at the farthest point of the Levada do Norte (only the maintenance guys are allowed beyond the gate.). It’s dramatic and stunning (extras).

They are doing quite a lot of repairing up there and it was a little slippery and hazardous in places. The views are stunning, and the farming is so traditional, unmechanised and hard.

Then the Levada passes through the eucalyptus forest and out the other side. From there you can see the ocean, and the more built up areas around Ribeira Brava and Campanario. (My Blip choice).

This walk is short and pretty flat - and one of the easiest. A great one to start with.

It’s hot today 28 according to my phone, and we’re awaiting the Calima, the sandstorm coming our way from the Canaries.
