Endurance Quartet
I have had such an eclectic weekend: the knitting expo, a basketball game, and now a fabulous concert: the Endurance Quartet, out of Houston, Texas, doing an entirely acoustic performance of old time gospel harmonies. (The link includes instruments because they haven't yet recorded the acoustic arrangements.)
The director of our local Baroque Festival sees a tradition stretching from Renaissance choral music to American harmonic singing--from sacred harp to classical choral to old school gospel, which is how these spirited gentlemen came to be on stage this afternoon, stunning us all with their lively and heartfelt songs.
The first part of the program featured Renaissance sacred music, but after intermission the Quartet took over and could have kept going all night. They were singing Mary Don't You Weep when the Festival director came on stage and told them it was time to stop. The lead singer held her hand and kept her there til the song was finished.
