Sally Mair - Loving life

Sarah's Sales

It seemed an appropriate place to start the day. Sarah being my given name.
After my usual breakfast this morning I headed off to Sarah Tucker College, a girls college around a couple of miles from where I live. It's run by the Church of South India and was the first college for girls in South India. There are over 3000 students at the campus which is both day and residential. Today they held a fundraising sale the campis was full of stalls set up all around, both in the auditorium and around the beautifully tended extensive ground. There were stalls from local businesses and also several other CSI institutions. The Deaf Centre at which I stay, and which has its own commercial bakery was there with a large table selling its wares. I could have bought bangles or necklaces for next to nothing, and there was so much fast food too
The whole place was, if you'll forgive the pun, going like a fair! There's is a wonderful naïvity at times about Indian events and this picture is an example of this. There were two of these small, four carriage 'big wheels'. Each one was constantly filled with laughing, giggling girls aged from around 17 - 23 and the sprawling queue to nab one of the carriages was extensive if not very orderly.
I managed not to buy anything but had fun wandering around and appearing in several people's selfies!
You can't spend all day having fun though (well actually I could!) so after an hour or so it was off to school. The painters have been in smartening up several areas, they've had new tiled floors put in which are both nicer to look at and easier to clean. The insects don't like them so much as the concrete either so that's a plus. The painters are completing the transformation with white walls and grey woodwork. It all looks very smart.
This evening I went out to Ruschi restaurant and had a very tasty onion omelette and some chicken 65, not the most balanced of diets, I guess you could call it chicken two ways! but I did avoid having rice.
Back home I followed up with a coffee and a wee piece of banana cake. They make very good cakes here.
