Red Kite
We had to return the orienteering equipment to the store in Leeds this afternoon so Tony had the very good idea of us going via Harlow Carr and having lunch at Betty's! Never one to turn down a raspberry macaroon, I agreed with gusto and we were off mid morning.
When we arrived at the store, the sky above filled with a flock of twelve red kites, which swooped and soared and dived above us all the time we were unloading. I could only think that someone locally was feeding them regularly and we were mistaken for those folks. Magnificent to watch and particularly great that they are now extending away from where they were first re introduced at Harewood several years ago. They are a much mistook bird and have been killed indiscriminately in the past. It is incorrect to think that they take live lambs etc. They feed on carrion and worms.
