Storm coming

Had a good run this morning, when the weather didn't look too ominous, then took the opportunity to be an early-season tourist and went to the Windermere Jetty Museum of Boats, Steam and Stories. It was good, including a short talk by one of the conservators on Sir Henry Segrave, who broke the world water speed record on Windermere in the 60s, and exhibits of Dolly, a rare example of a very early steamboat which sank on Ullswater in the Great Freeze of 1895 but was salvaged in 1960 and then restored; and the Mary Ann, the last surviving rowed Windermere ferry, built before the steam-powered chain ferry was introduced in 1870 (see extras).
