Woman at work
Abi is in the middle of her mock GCSEs. In direct contrast to her brother's que sera sera approach to exams, she has been working like crazy. And thankfully it's paying off; I'd hate to see such commitment and conscientiousness going unrewarded.
This evening, she's studying maths. I must say that it's a subject that I enjoy and it pains me that it's so badly taught at primary school that most people are put off it for life. I also think it's ridiculous that so much emphasis is put on the subject at GSCE but there you go.
I did offer to lend a hand, which Abi politely declined. In fact, out of all of the kids, only the miniMinx has ever come to me for help with maths. None of them have ever wanted to discuss science with me either!
I was thinking about this, afterwards, and about what I was going to write on the subject of advice, specifically the fact that no one ever asks for mine. (Which I don't mind at all, so I actually ended up dwelling on how to write about that without sounding in some way petulant.)
On reflection, though, that's not 100% true. I do get asked for my opinion and for my advice at work, and that's plenty enough for me!
