The mighty Waikato river and Huka falls

The only river flowing out of lake Taupo, the Waikato river, is New Zealand's longest river. Not far from the start of the river are the Huka falls. These are not particularly tall - only 11 meters, but what is so awe inspiring is the 220,000 litres of water that passes through every second and the colour. We took a leisurely bush walk next to the river and then met our French friends for lunch at a country art cafe. A very pleasant day.
