A walk in the woods
We woke up this morning with dark clouds and possible rain coming in. Since Diane did not have to be at the airport until noon we had to find something to do for those morning hours. We looked at the weather map to see how far away the real rain was and decided we had time to get a walk in at Anne Springs Close Greenway which was only about 20 minutes from the airport.
We found the location which was a place I had never been and proceeded to walk the path to the grist mill that was along the trail. We left the cameras in the car because of rain possibility and grabbed the phones and the umbrellas. We followed the trail through the woods which looped toward the grist mill. It was a good trail and my favorite kind of walking area...in the woods along a creek! As we made the turn to head back to the car it started to rain and we walked onward in a light drizzly rain. Lucky for us we had the umbrellas! Just as we approached the car the rain started pouring down! Whew! Just made it!
We stopped at the historical Waffle House for some coffee and a last chat before making our way to the airport. Charlotte Airport is not well marked for departures so I had to make a loop to get in the right lane to drop Diane off. They really need to work on marking the lanes for the proper place to go! Luckily we had plenty of time!
I drove on home and arrived at about the time Diane's flight was taking off for Milwaukee at 2:30!
We are so glad the rain only came on the last day! We did manage to hike 3.4 miles this morning according to my iphone! I know we will both sleep really well tonight in our own beds as it has been a busy and full six days!
Of course, another vacation has been discussed for the near future! Wisconsin is one state that I have never visited!
A couple of extras along the trail today, including a swinging bridge!
