Helter-skelter

By Juli

Phew, what a day!

Got to school a little later than normal as my daughter has another bladder infection and although she was OK to go in, I thought I'd let her skip breakfast club this morning and have that extra hour at home. I wasn't the last one to arrive at work, though, as the new lot of snow that fell last night caused further chaos on the roads. It's started snowing again now and I've got to get my son to Beavers later, so that should be fun - NOT!

Tomorrow afternoon, the different departments will be promoting their various subjects as it's 'Options Open Afternoon'. What this means is that children starting their GCSEs next year will be choosing which ones to do and I have been working on the Geography Department's display. I've made a couple of big posters as well as small flyers to hand out. My favourites are these A4-size posters, though. There's one for each topic covered, with pictures and interesting facts and questions to think about, like 'What role do you play in the global economy?' and 'Why is water our most precious resource?'. I do enjoy these little projects and of course they're giving me a good head-start for when (if?) I ever get my very own classroom. I've also started working on a 'blog', which I hope my future students will find useful. I'm finding it useful already, anyway, as it's a handy place to keep everything I often use myself, like useful links.

I also met not one but two Egyptologists! The first is spending a couple of days at my children's school and I had an interesting chat with him when I dropped them off this morning. The second was actually a photographer who was taking class photos in the library when I went to do my laminating and, again, a very interesting chat followed! Add to that the fact that my new course's website opened today and I've had quite a productive day (if you don't count a severe lack of commenting on here!).
