SURPRISE!!!!
Had a lovely day out today. I took G up to Borrowdale to visit the Lodore Falls Hotel & Spa for a coffee and a sandwich and then a little stroll in the area.
I'm trying to go to places where don't have to have too much interaction with people due to the Coronavirus thingy - just me being over-cautious really.
Lodore Falls Hotel
Surprise View
Anyway we visited the Lodore Falls Hotel and it was a lovely place and whilst checking they were open for non-residents at Reception we discovered they had a Pan Asian Restaurant, called Mizu. So we decided to treat ourselves. Wow what a wonderful place. It is a little expensive but so worth it. The staff and food were excellent. We've decided to try and make it an annual visit now.
After this we had a short stroll by the side of Derwentwater and then I took Garron up to see Surprise View!!! That is the photograph. He was delighted with it. He stayed far enough back due to his dizzyness and was suitably gobsmacked with this stunning view. As you drive up the narrow road, over the very narrow Ashness Bridge there is no indication that you are going to get a view. Then wham - there it is. It is so breathtaking that we spent a little time there.
Now if I've got this right the snow-capped mountain is Skiddaw - please do let me know if I've got this wrong. The view looks over the whole length of Derwentwater, just past the little island is Lingholm Estate, which I've blipped before and just beyond that Portinscale. Cat Bells is there somewhere too, to the left I think.
Coming back down was a bit of an adventure, just before we got to Ashness Bridge on the way down, they are re-building a house, a white van was parked blocking the road whilst they unloaded windows and we were stuck there for nearly 20 minutes, with cars behind us and cars wanting to come up to - and no acknowledgement from the workers what they were going to do.
Minor panic I can't reverse UP this very narrow road - but phew I didn't need to try as the two cars waiting to come up managed to reverse just a little and pull into the only two spaces left on the side of the road. Panic over.
We got home about 3.30 to find we had a powercut. This is why this blip is so late. North West Electricity though were very helpful and kept us informed. I checked that our elderly neighbour was OK and had candles should she need them. She was dithering about going to her daughter, who only lives in Allithwaite (just a couple of miles away) so I persuaded her to go so she could at least have a hot cup of tea. She phoned me later to say it was the best advice I had given her as her daughter, naturally fed and watered her and made sure she was OK. Like a lot of older people she just doesn't like to think she's being a nuisance - which of course she is not.
Hubby needed some food so we went up to The Pheasant in Allithwaite so he could eat. I just had a drink and light snack.
Got home about 8 o'clock and YEAH we had light.
That was my adventurous day, a lovely one overall I think you will agree.
Thank you so much for dropping by. As this is quite late I will catch up on your blips tomorrow. Thank you so much for continuing to drop by and reading my ramblings. Take care, stay safe and see you all tomorrow.
This is also my entry for Wide Wednesday with the theme of nature. Well there's plenty of nature in this shot I think you will agree. Many thanks to BobsBlips for hosting.
