square blip

i managed a half hour away from the market today - so i walked down to the market square in the centre of Nottingham. Nice to be able to walk across the square actually, it is so often the site of farmers' markets; international food markets; craft markets; christmas fair; easter fair; and in the summertime tons of sand are shipped in and amusements to create 'seaside in the city' ... but it is so very nice to appreciate the space of the square, the central point in the city just as it is! and the Council House looks over all the goings on - the Sheriff of Nottingham and the Lord Mayor have their offices here, and it is also the main registry office now for civil ceremonies and weddings, civic receptions are always held here and the royal party waved from the balcony on their visit to the city last year as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations.

Unfortunately the sun didn't shine, so the stone facade of the Council House looks very grey and foreboding... in the summer with blue sky behind it, and the sun shining onto it, it does look a lot different - no doubt i can blip it later in the year, if I can catch it without markets, fairs, amusements and beach!!
