If you ain't on the list...

Dragged eldest and youngest to the Lillie Art Gallery in Milngavie to see an exhibition based on a masked ball held by Truman Capote in 1966. The exhibition focused on who was on the guest list and who wasn't. Ideas of exclusion and inclusion.

The boys enjoyed it if only because most of the images were of animals wearing masks.

Thoroughly recommend it and here's some blurb about it if you're interested:

In 1966 Truman Capote was white hot. To celebrate his position at the front and centre of the cultural scene, he famously staged a Bal Masque, where the compilation of the guest list would be a tour de force of social engineering. Prospective guests prayed they would be among the chosen and those not invited had to, quite literally, leave town.

Diane Dawson presents an exhibition of paintings and prints, which explores the social mythology created by Truman Capote for his famous Black and White Ball. Specifically, the merits of making the list versus those of being a gatecrasher and the parallels we can draw with the theme of exclusion and inclusion in everyday life.
