The Metropolitan Museum of Art
We had another great day starting with a surprise art display in the subway station where we got off on our way to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Along the walls are huge mosaics of works by contemporary artist Chuck Close. There were several I recognized from the show of his work I saw at the Shack Gallery in Everett. These pieces were made of mosaic tiles. The ones at the Shack were made from paper pieces. Wild to find this permanent collection in a subway station.
We spent four hours at the Met mostly concentrating on late 19th and early 20th century art. We both love art of this period and it was a very impressive collection. It was a tiny part of the art and we are going back tomorrow.
For lunch we shared a sticky bun and a pistachio twist. Decadent and delicious.
In the evening we went to a concert at Carnegie Hall. The orchestra of St Luke’s and La Chapelle de Quebec and soloists performed an all Beethoven program of little known orchestral and choral works. We were in the front row of a box in the second tier and it was a perfect spot. The concert was wonderful. And so was our day.
