New Addition

The sunshine has brought out some colour in the garden today.  I passed an enjoyable hour or so at the coffee morning with friend Chris then returned home just in time for the logs to arrive.  Once they were away in the store, Hobbler friend Bev arrived to pick up the Parkrun box for tomorrow.  We will be celebrating International Women's Day so there will be lots of purple everywhere and hopefully lots of women runners.

After lunch, Tony took advantage of the sunshine to head up to the allotment and do some building work on his new wall, whilst I did some jobs.  We picked up this tulipa humilis at Harlow Carr last week so that has now gone in to the rockery, which is slowly begin to wake up.  I'm a bit worried that the mini meadow is looking very grassy and we have a bare patch where some animal has regularly been going through, so I've ordered some plug plants of yellow rattle to hopefully fill some of the gap and hold back the grasses we don't want in there.  I can hardly wait till it starts growing then we can see how successful my preparation was last year!

If you like your video games, try these 'virtuous' ones!  Eco is a simulation game that challenges players to build a civilisation without trashing the planet.  Gamers have to work together to develop a sustainable economy and laws that benefit the environment. (Sounds like something our government should be doing!)  The second game, developed by the charity Islamic Relief, Virtue Reality, challenges games to build schools, shelters and boreholes to help communities out of poverty.  'Muslims give more to charity than any other religious group in the UK,' and this game portrays the 'generosity and humanity' of the Muslim faith.  Finally, in 'Change: A Homeless Survival Experience' players are given the task of getting their character off the street by selling a Big Issue type newspaper; navigating job applications and looking after their health.  20% of the profits from the game go to the homeless charity 'Crisis'.
