Rime ice just holding on.

There are  ice structures covering every upstanding objec. It is very hard not to look at them and see faces or animals, frozen in place.

But they are just ice! Formed in a peculiar atmosphere that is very cold and very dry, so nothing ever melts. The rime is formed as damp clouds blow across the tops and freeze onto objects in its path. It is either frozen solid or it sublimes away directly into vapour. There is no liquid phase. When you breathe out you see your breath freeze in front of you and it falls to the ground as sparkling ice crystals.
