Batucada
This energetic young woman worked her initially timid group of drummers into a frenzy! Likewise the audience, it was great fun and very energising. The launch of a weekend of events for International Women's Day, organised by a group of which guiri and F are a part. They have put together an incredible programme of workshops, art, talks, theatre performances, and music, lasting all weekend.
I have to admit that after the batucada, instead of staying for the speeches officially launching the event, to be followed by the opening of the art exhibition (booze and tapas included), S and I sloped off to take part in another important event in the Almuñecar calendar: La Ruta de Tapas. Twenty eight bars lay on special tapas, and you get a passport which, once stamped in at least five bars, you can use to vote for your favourite. What could possibly go wrong? We abstemiously restricted ourselves to three bars. The first two tapas were, well, delicate, but luckily the one at the Cortijillo was a robust dome of deep-fried mashed potato filled with mince, topped with cheese, and served with chilli sauce and aioli. So we didn't need any dinner when we got home at 10 pm. There are two weeks left to visit the other 25 bars, so we can pace ourselves.
