Sensing

During a break in my course today I went for a walk in the woods.  It felt mild and spring-like.  The pale yellow flowers of the primrose where sprinkled amongst the leaves and mud - such a delightful sight.  As I walked I noticed the stem of this climbing plant winding its way around the branch of a tree.  I don't know quite how plants do this, but I feel I need to find out.  I wonder if it is a similar mechanism (with the opposite effect) to that which results in the crowns of fully stocked trees not touching each other, forming a canopy with channel-like gaps.

Hoping your Saturday has been good to you.
