A slowish start gathered momentum as we set off to visit the African Art Shop in Parkview . On leaving the Uber Ros exclaimed this town is nearly normal as it was a clean leafy tree lined high street with pleasant buildings and nice shops. Unfortunately African Art didn't stock the type of Colonial Gentlemen I'm looking for. They too only had the thin stretched ones but told us of a craft market in Rosebank that may have the one l want. We stopped for coffee before catching an Uber to check out this market. It was a large market beneath a shopping mall but again there were no Colonial Gentlemen.
We then carried on to the James Hall Museum of Transport. This museum was poles apart from the one we saw in Franschoek as the vehicles were not well maintained and looked as if they'd not run for decades. Although having said that they had a good selection of American cars buses and trams rusty old tractors and traction engines and of course there was an Austin Seven. Still at least it was free to get in and the lady receptionist who hounded us at the start to give a donation was all smiles at the end when we popped some notes into her donation box.
The next stop was Maboneng a few trendy streets near the centre of Johannesburg. The main street and some side roads had been brightened up with brightly painted shop fronts and cafés with quirky tables and chairs etc etc. The whole place was alive and thriving. Of course we stopped for a drink and a late bite of lunch.
After a lazy walk round soaking up the atmosphere we caught an Uber to the Park Gautrain station. We more often than not seem to be near this station where it is only two stops from Sandton and our Hotel is just a five minute walk. The Friday night rush hour traffic was thick and it took longer than even the Uber App had anticipated to get to the station. Still once on board the train we were moving effortlessly again.
Back in Sandton we made for thep Sunset bar at Sandton Sun Hotel where we watched the sunset over a couple of glasses of Prosecco.
From there we moved to an Italian restaurant for a bowl of spaghetti bolognese. Which we again shared as helpings in all the restaurants are so so large. Most of the locals leave the restaurants clutching doggy bags.
