A very breezy morning
This morning my local RSPB group from Chichester, West Sussex had a harbour walk at Prinsted just across the border in Hampshire. The weather looked a tad dodgy but a dozen intrepid birders turned up for the walk. It was going to be a difficult day to spot any birds as it was blowing a hoolie.
I think the total species for the two and a half hour walk was only 22. One would usually expect around the 40 mark in and around our harbours. We discovered numerous Mediterranean Gulls (see pic att). These are easily distinguishable from Black-headed Gulls as the black cap extends further down the back of the head on a Med Gull and the beak is alot redder. Also Black-headed Gulls actually havde a brown head. The bird of the day for me was a pair of Grey Partridges only because it was bird number 107 for the year and they aren't normally found by the coast...more often than not on the South Downs.
Another picture in my collage is of a young male Roe deer sheltering out of the wind behind a hedge. His horns were still completely covered in velvet.
