We hobbled up Lonsdale Street this afternoon, home to this marble stele which celebrates the affiliation of Melbourne and Thessaloniki as sister cities. The relief depicts St Demetrius of Thessaloniki, military saint and victim of big bad Diocletion. Today, Lonsdale Street is the heart of Melbourne's Greek community.
