Coat hook

Came across this curio today in Great Newport Street in Covent Garden. The story goes that back in the 1930s the policemen directing traffic at the very busy junction used to hang their heavy woollen capes on a nail protruding from a building site. When the building works were finished and the nail disappeared, the police asked for a nail to be put back and got this sturdy, bespoke hook, clearly labelled so everyone knew what it was for! Despite subsequent renovations to the little building, the coat hook is still there.
