in transit in avoidance

After learning Spanish for the last six months, I hadn't anticipated the first foreign language I would need to be French! But the flight attendant insisted we only had an hour so make the most of it. It was fun... What little I could remember, anyway!

It hadn’t registered but we had another ten hours of French on the next flight!  This was the awesome view about half way there.

A couple of strange things have happened. Firstly, we haven't been on the lookout for any programmes about our holiday, yet last night, in our hotel room, we first of all heard about Joanna Lumley doing a programme on the country and then happened on a whole hour of nature on the island. I already want to go back for that but we have managed to fit a little bit in to our schedule.

Of course, that's if it all goes to plan.

Rich's worse nightmare is getting quarantined there.  Mine, just getting it on holiday, I suppose. I've always been bug-averse so nothing new there, but it is a strange feeling looking at people and you can't help wondering if they're carriers.  It'll be a holiday to remember if we spend two weeks inside a hospital!

I'm also thinking, from it, the world will be a more hygienic place; everyone should be brought up to wash their hands for 20 seconds and sneeze into something properly. I wonder how many years it will last.

The second weird thing was that as we walked to the terminal this morning, I thought how odd it was that London was advertising Manchester Airport. I only realised an hour later... We were in Manchester!

In transit. You could be anywhere!

After a very smooth journey, we arrived around midnight UK time having to wait for half an hour on the tarmac for a parking space when we arrived. That was a bit of a pain but we were met as planned at the airport and congratulated on successfully negotiating the fever sensing equipment and on being one of the first out.

Luckily, at home, I'd spotted someone on our village fb group offering their holiday currency. It was worthwhile sneaking it in as it saved us having to queue for another hour at the airport to ensure we had a bit of money.

We were taken to our simple but appealing casa particular in the middle of the old town.
