Spring is in the air

I managed to spend the whole of this unusually glorious, sunny day outside, this morning at Butser Ancient Farm with my volunteer group and this afternoon with Mr DA at the Chichester gravel pits. We went to the latter with high hopes of seeing some courting grebes but, alas, only saw a couple of single ones. There were lots of (at least 25) cormorants around, though, and they seemed to be collecting nesting material on a sort of relay basis. Very interesting to watch.

On the way back we heard Johnson's announcement about the next measures we need to take regarding Coronavirus. It all feels very weird. It's also a bit weird that we're being told to avoid pubs, restaurants, etc, but the establishments themselves haven't been told to close. Presumably there is a financial reason for this?
