Beyond Repair

For many many years Arklow was famous for its fishing fleet, its shipping fleet run by Arklow Shipping and its Pottery. Arklow Pottery employed so many local people that it seems like half the inhabitants still alive and living here have at some time in their lives been employed in the factory.
Shortly after I came here, Arklow Pottery was taken over by the Japanese Noritake company but never regained its former glory and is now a footnote in the annals of history. The old factory buildings are still there, gradually crumbling to dust. This was part of the office block and like the rest of the Pottery works, I think you will agree, is well beyond repair.
