Special of the Day: Roast Chestnut

And if you're in lockdown, you wouldn't even have to go to the restaurant, you could simply take a bucket full home and roast them on the fire!
The cockatoos seemed to have broken open some of the VERY spiny husks and eaten the shiny brown nuts, and the ground was littered with husks the size of tennis balls.
The beautiful tree is a Sweet Chestnut, Castanea sativa, which I pass on the way home from shopping...the treat of the trip!
