Colt's-foot
Practicing my social distancing at Swaddywell Pit today, seeking out bright colours and interesting textures to lift the spirits. Colt's-foot is the epitome of a cheerful spring flower, but most photographs are taken from the front, which means that the translucent red phyllaries are hidden - they look particularly beautiful against the light.
A scattering of solitary bees, drone flies and bee flies along the sunny and sheltered northern cliff face was a sure and welcome sign of spring. I also disturbed a jack snipe, foraging round a pool in the Top Meadow, the first of the year for me.
