You've been blipped!

This is my second attempt to blip a blipper. My first attempt (which was, coincidentally, exactly one month ago) was an unmitigated failure, as I succeeded only in blipping two innocent characters with a peculiar interest in taking pictures of the tramworks.

The gentleman pictured above has all the marks of the lunchtime blipper: a suit, a Crumpler bag over his shoulder, a DSLR round his neck (a Canon, in this instance). So I wonder: have I blipped a blipper?

Although I am, geographically speaking, one of the Edinburgh blip crowd, I have never met any of my fellow Edinburgh blippers; indeed, I have not even so much as exchanged an email with any of them. Nonetheless, I have seen pictures of many of them, so I can rule out a few people...

This isn't one of the female Edinburgh blip crowd, obviously.

It isn't Stevie Fish, Mono, Boab, Tonto, anth or wingpig: I've seen pictures of them and remember (vaguely) what they look like and this clearly isn't one of them.

I haven't seen a picture of 42, but he shoots with a Nikon, so it isn't him.

A number of other Edinburgh blippers can be ruled out on the grounds that they don't seem to do the lunchtime city centre blip thing.

So who does that leave? I can think of one or two candidates, but I'm not going to speculate. If I have blipped you, I shall leave it to you to own up :-)

Regardless of whether or not our anonymous friend is "one of us", it was interesting to observe his "technique" and how it differed from mine. I approached from quite a distance (probably from the far side of the big dark shadow towards the top of the frame), walking slowly towards him. He composed his shots very carefully and scrutinised them closely after taking them. He was the epitome of concentration. I took one shot from the side, maybe ten paces away. He didn't notice. I walked behind him close enough to reach out and slap him on the head if I had felt so inclined. I didn't and he didn't notice me. I walked on a bit further, turned round and took the shot you see above.

Me, I'm much quicker and much sloppier. Raise camera, click, done! This is partly due to general life-sloppiness and partly due to having noticed that if I take my time and shoot lots of different shots of the same thing with slightly different composition each time, the first one is usually the best anyway...
