To parents of reception aged children,
Please be kind to yourselves,
We know this is hard.
If you let your child explore their garden, they will learn.
If you provide them a bucket, pipes, containers, whisks and water, they will learn.
If they have soil and spades, they will learn.
If you see a flower, animal or bug, research it. Look how it grows, they are learning.
Let them build dens, paint, bake, climb.
Hold them close and read to them with hot chocolate as often as you can.
Collect natural items, count them, share them out, form numbers with them.
Count steps, claps, marbles in a jar
Write for a purpose, letters, postcards, lists, even if they're not sent
Let their learning be play, and remember that you don't have to be constantly engaging with them for them to learn.
