Strolling in Djibouti

We arrived safely in Djibouti and then went for a site visit. The plot of land we were given by the Ministry on which to construct an e-learning centre is in the middle of a poor neighbourhood. Interesting to note that the land is in no-man's land. Apparently the Afar and the Somali communities are somewhat divided and the plot on which we will build sits in the middle of this 'division'. We hope the project will bring both communities together.

In the background you will find the port of Djibouti which is the main economic activity of this country with the majority of the goods going straight down to Ethiopia. There is a huge amount of construction and development going on around this town so the shot is not a good example of that but does highlight that there is still a lot of work to be done.

Today we are off to visit Tadjourah where we will establish another children's village and a kindergarten....so grateful it is January and the weather is not too much above 30!

But oh that I could have the courage to put my camera in people's faces and capture the real feel of what is happening around here. But either it is courage I lack or consideration of which I have too much - time will tell!
