WE'VE BEEN ON A MILK HUNT!
I had an email this morning to say my Waitrose order would be delivered between 3 and 4 p.m. today, but there were so many items they could not deliver, I did wonder if it was worth doing online, but of course, Martyn, our older son, has forbidden us to go shopping. However, I was in touch with him this morning and he says he has a sore throat and bad ears, but no cough or temperature, so doesn't think it is the CV, but we may now have to rely on our neighbours instead of him.
One of the items that Waitrose could not deliver was two 2 pint cartons of milk - and as I have never been a lover of black coffee, we thought that when we went out for our morning walk, we would call into the garage and try to purchase two cartons “through the window”.
When we arrived, the Manager, who also happens to be called Maureen, acknowledged that we were there and after she had finished serving her customer, came back and asked what we needed - we explained that it was only two cartons of milk, so she obligingly got them for us. We also bought a newspaper for us and our other next door neighbours, but not before I had taken a shot of Maureen - which I know isn’t that brilliant, because there were lots of reflections in the shot, but it does show her smiling face. In fact, looking at our daily selfie, we could be sisters, except what parent would call their two daughters by the same name?
I told Maureen she was an angel, which made her smile and then we came straight home because Mr. HCB is expecting his very large garden order to come sometime this morning and he didn’t want to miss it. In fact, he has just received a text to say it will be delivered between 12.44 and 13.44 today, so we needn’t have rushed.
The bin men came and I gave them a “thumbs up” - then our next door neighbour on the other side, Sandra, brought our bin down to our side gate, so we had a “long distance” chat with her through our kitchen window. Although not over 70, her husband is on the vulnerable list, so she is walking the dog and doing any shopping they need - I asked if we could put a note in our window if we needed anything - and she said she was happy about that.
So mission completed - we will need to be careful and eke out the milk until we can get some more, but I’m sure we will manage. We have now moved from self-isolating to social distancing and at the moment, we are both feeling fine. Mr. HCB is pottering in the garden, so he is a happy bunny and after I have finished my Blip, I’m going to make some soup. The sun is shining and it’s hard to believe that almost the whole world is in quarantine for one reason or another. However, we will continue to be positive and believe that we will get through this difficult and challenging time.
“Hope is important because it can make
the present moment less difficult to bear.
If we believe that tomorrow will be better,
we can bear a hardship today.”
